About Lagniappe Alabama Media Project
Lagniappe is a locally owned, independent media company serving Mobile and Baldwin counties on Alabama’s Gulf Coast. Founded in 2002, we publish a weekly print newspaper and daily digital coverage on lagniappemobile.com. We began as a more traditional alternative newspaper to our city’s daily, with an emphasis on arts and entertainment coverage. Our mission changed in 2014, when our daily newspaper ceased to print and transitioned to a statewide website based out of a city nearly 300 miles away. Our mission now is to keep our communities informed and engaged through credible local journalism that holds public officials accountable, examines issues affecting residents’ lives and celebrates the people and culture that make our region distinctive.
Our coverage includes local government, politics, business, public safety and community issues, alongside sports, arts, music, food and entertainment. Through award-winning investigative journalism, breaking news, commentary and features, we help readers understand the decisions shaping coastal Alabama while connecting them with its neighborhoods, businesses and cultural life.
Our audience includes residents who want to stay informed, participate in their communities and support local businesses. We reach more than 53,000 weekly print readers, along with audiences across our website, email newsletters, social media and podcast. Our free weekly print edition makes local journalism widely accessible, while digital subscriptions support our website, which is updated many times each day and what we consider our area’s “daily (digital) paper.”
